We call it Trails Country.
Your heart calls it home.
Nothing says "country" as much as beautiful, tranquil scenery, placid lakes and wildlife.
We've assembled some of our favorite photos from local photographers
that reflect the Piney Woods and its lakes. Every season has its
glory. Every visit reveals surprises.

Autumn Trails
Fall color begins during Autumn Trails in October, depending on the given year,
and is often spectacular throughout November. The winding back roads are
picture-perfect for amateur and professional photographers.
Texas Forest Trail
Whether you’re a native Texan or a first-time visitor, it is time to re-discover
the Texas Forest Trail Region! From birding to tournament fishing to biking,
hiking and camping, you can experience nature in a new way in East Texas.
Spanning 35 East Texas counties, from Red River County on the Oklahoma
border to Jefferson County on the Gulf of Mexico, the Texas Forest Trail Region
was the "Gateway to Texas" for prehistoric Caddo Indians, Spanish and French
explorers, Anglo pioneers, enslaved and freed African Americans and European
immigrants.
Shadows of early Caddo and Spanish occupation linger, and the stories of Texas'
emergence from a wilderness to a great state unfold in the region's numerous
towns, many among the state's oldest.
Great Texas Wildlife Trails
Check out the Prairies & Piney Woods Trails (East) for driving loops that will
put you close to the natural beauty of our area, as well as birds and other wildlife.
