National Day of Prayer

Anita Williams - Sunday, April 25, 2010
On Thursday, May 6th, Winnsboro will observe the 59th National Day of Prayer along with millions of Americans at thousands of events from coast-to-coast.  Established in 1952, by a joint resolution of the Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, the 1st Thursday in May celebrates faith through prayer.

Mr. Franklin Graham will join Task Force Chair Shirley Dobson to lead the nation in prayer as the 2010 Honorary Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force.  The theme this year is based on Nahum 1:7 which states, “The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in Him.”

Our community is invited to participate in the planned Winnsboro events:

6:30 am to 8:30 am
“Come and Go” Prayer Breakfast
Fellowship Hall, First Baptist Church of Winnsboro

Church, community members, families, business owners and employees are encouraged to attend the breakfast before starting their work/school    day.  This event was attended by over 145 participants in 2009.

12:00 noon to 12:30 pm
City Hall Prayer Event

Gather at City Hall to pray for our local government leaders, the police and fire departments.

6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Prayer in the Streets
Mill and Elm Streets

The community gathers to form a human cross and praise God through music and prayer.  In 2009, over 600 people participated in this event which is covered by the media.  KLTV 7 News will film the event this year.

This government-proclaimed day is offered to all Americans, regardless of religion.  The Winnsboro events are open to all who wish to attend.
