Mount Vernon Music Presents Transfigured Night - An Evening of Romantic Music and Art September 12

Anita Williams - Sunday, September 05, 2010

This notice about the upcoming performance was sent to us from our classically inclined friends at Mount Vernon Music, just up Hwy 37. This promises to be a moving blend of visual and musical art. . .

Come to Mount Vernon Music Hall for Transfigured Night – An Evening of Romantic Music and Art on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 7 pm, 402 Leftwich St. at Yates St. in Mt. Vernon.

With rich harmonies and emotional musical color, Arnold Schoenberg's Transfigured Night portrays a story of regret, forgiveness and love as told in a famous poem by Richard Dehmel.

Austrian visual art from the same era will be on display, provided by the Franklin County Arts Alliance. The program will feature an opening talk by Dr. Pete Jutras, examining the social, historical and cultural context of the music performed, which also includes a stunningly beautiful string quartet by Fannie Mendelssohn Hensel, sister of Felix Mendelssohn, and a fiery duet for cello and violin by Maurice Ravel. Performing will be Mark Miller and Kristin Jutras, violins; Ute Miller and Susan Dubois, violas; Jolyon Pegis and Donna Davis, cellos.

Tickets are $15 general admission, and only $10 for MVM members. Students are admitted free (students 8th grade and younger must be accompanied by a paid adult). Memberships in MVM start at $25 and are good for the entire season from June 1 through May 31.
