The Rotary Club of Winnsboro - 6th Annual Classic Car Cruise-in - bigger and better than ever!

Anita Williams - Sunday, August 08, 2010
Labor Day Weekend will be here before you know it. And that means the popular Classic Car Cruise-in sponsored by the Rotary Club of Winnsboro will kick off the long weekend with some well-deserved R&R.

Date: Saturday, Sept 4th, 2010

Time: 7-11am Registration; Judging 11-1pm; Awards 1-2pm

Here's a shot I took last year showing several men around a vintage beauty.

You can't see their glazed eyes, but I can assure you, the men were hypnotized by this car, as well as the many others on display, plus trucks of various makes, models and vintages that were at the show. Throughout the day, clusters of men were staring, leaning, retelling car stories from their own childhood or teen years, and talking about the fine points of various vehicles. The camaraderie was tangible. It was clearly a dream day for many.

I'm not saying this is an event for men only. Not at all. Women were shooting pictures and video of their favorite cars as well. And this is a terrific chance to take the family out for the day without spending a fortune on tickets - the show is free.

There are lots of events, games and prizes that add interest to the day, so plan on staying a while. You'll find plenty of food and soft drinks.

The Powers That Be in the Rotary Club tell me (I love it when I get the inside scoop) that this show will be larger than ever, with more car owners and vintage car buffs attending for the first time.

If you know people in car clubs with-in driving distance, give them a call and point them to the information.

I've posted a few more pics. on the Cruise-In page on this site. But for complete information about the event, you'll need to click over to www.WinnsboroClassicCarShow.com.

See you there!

Two by Two a hit at Quitman Community Theatre

Anita Williams - Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Miles Mutchler and Cora Beaty star as
Noah and Esther in Two by Two.

This past Sunday, we went to the matinee of this fun, and sometimes touching, musical by Richard Rodgers.  The performance was lively, prompting both laughter and, I must admit, a few tears in some particularly touching scenes.  (I was surprised to find my eyes tearing up and even more surprised when even a few men were heard to be sniffling as they dabbed at the corners of their eyes.)

One of the most intriguing things about this show is that Miles, playing the lead role of Noah, is 84 years old. Director Bob Hibbard announced this production is the third time Miles has played Noah. Even so, he's as vibrant as the actors young enough to be his children, or even great-grandchildren.  He's very nimble on stage, with a presence that testifies to his vast experience as an actor.

Brett Murphy as Ham and Candace Brooks

Two by Two by Richard Rodgers.

The last three performances will be Friday and Saturday, August 6 and 7 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, August 8 at 2:00 pm at the Carroll Green Civic Center in Quitman.

Tickets: $10 for adults
(This particular play is not recommended for children)

Gina's hot idea to cool you down - cold, creamy cheesecake by the slice

Anita Williams - Thursday, July 22, 2010

Gina's Creative Cakes is a great place to drop by when you're shopping in downtown Winnsboro.  And while the summer heat seems to be turned up, Gina is serving up her creamy, signature chilled cheesecake by the slice to cool things down.

So take a break and enjoy!  Gina, creative soul that she is, will surprise you with one of her favorite flavors.  Which flavors she makes on a given day is decided when she arrives at work.  Don't be shy.  Every flavor - vanilla, strawberry and peanut butter being only three of the many possiblities - is delicious.

Book Signing at Winnsboro Center for the Arts

Anita Williams - Sunday, July 11, 2010
Maryann Miller announced on Winnsboro Today that Gay Ingram of Pittsburg will be signing copies of her latest book, Twist of Fate, at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17 from 1pm-4pm. This event ties in with the 3rd Friday Arts Festival. She'll also have some of her other books as well. The WCA, a non-profit organization, will receive a portion of the books sales.

Twist of Fate, set of the Western Plains in the 1700s, tells the story of Audelia, who was captured by the Indians and later returned to her family. She calls on all her experience and courage to overcome the unexpected turn of events in her life.

While you're downtown for CRAZY DAZE and the 3rd Friday festivities, be sure to drop by the WCA, meet Gay and get an autographed copy for yourself or for a gift.
