Events in Winnsboro on the National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 5

The Bible Reading Marathon
starts at 1 pm on Monday, May 2 and will continue through the National Day of Prayer, wrapping up at the former Alco parking lot on S. Main St. at 6:30 pm.

The National Day of Prayer
will include events throughout the day, Thursday, May 5.

The day will begin with a Come & Go Prayer Breakfast at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 301 Church St. from 6:30 to 8:30 am.

At 12 Noon, people will gather at City Hall to pray specifically for our local government leaders, fire fighter and police, as well as state and national government.

Prayer, praise music and speaking at the former Alco location at approximately 6:30 pm, following the conclusion of the Bible Reading Marathon.

True Blue brings jazz to the stage at Crossroads, Thurs., April 28

On Thursday evening, April 28 at 7 pm, True Blue will be bringing their freshly styled jazz classics from the 40s and 50s to the Crossroads Stage at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts with special guest Nick Tallant playing the vibraphone.

The members of True Blue include Shannon Monk (vocals), George Gagliardi (piano/guitar), Rick Murray (drums) and Ben Scarborough (bass). 

Tickets are $15 and available at the door or may be purchased in advance at the Winnsboro Emporium, 316 N. Main St. All seating is numbered now, so get your tickets soon to ensure the best seats!

Northeast Texas Music Festival celebrates Texas' 175th Birthday at Oaklea Mansion April 30

The NETX Music Festival is a tradition in Winnsboro.

This year, the group is going to present several smaller
events in venues around the city.

The first event will be the 175th Texas Birthday party April 30
at Oaklea Mansion. It will be an adult costume party and comedy
show with a dance following.

Willie P. Richardson, an award winning comedian known
as the "Phone Prankster" will perform.  The Texas themed
costume party will be held in the Oaklea Mansion Gardens
beginning at 6:30 and is byob with free drinks and snacks.

Bonnie and Clyde may come.  Dance music will be provided
by DJ Randy Lindsay.

Advance tickets only, $50 per couple, $30 per person.

Oaklea Mansion is at 407 S. Main St., Winnsboro.

The 54th Annual Awards Banquet will be held this week on Thursday, April 7th.


The doors open at 6 pm and dinner is 6:30 pm - theme "Heartbeat of America, Small Town & Small Businesses".

 

The Chamber extends an invitation to everyone to enjoy an evening of great silent auction items, dinner, speaker and presentations to The Man, Woman, Teacher, Business and Agricultural Awards of the Year.

CRAZY DAZE "Give Back" event in April benefits the Winnsboro Community Resource Center

During April CRAZY DAZE - April 14-16 - the merchants participating in CRAZY DAZE will give back to the community up to 5% of their sales during CRAZY DAZE.

The money will be donated to The Winnsboro Community Resource Center (food bank).

In addition, each of the merchants will be taking donations of boxed Macaroni & Cheese in exchange for discounts and special deals at downtown stores and restaurants.

Annual Mad Hatter's Tea, April 6, 2011 to benefit Gilbreath Memorial Library

The annual Mad Hatter’s Tea to benefit the Gilbreath Memorial Library in Winnsboro, will be held on Wednesday, April 6th, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Library, 916 N. Main St., Winnsboro, TX.

This year marks the 101st Tea sponsored by the Standard Club to benefit the Library in Winnsboro.

The Tea is free and open to the public.  All donations are used to purchase books and other lending materials at the Library.

This is always a fun event, as well as an important fund-raising event for the library.

Last year’s Tea was just recognized with a 1st place award for fundraising from the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, Key District.  The President of Key District, Sonja Tate, is planning to attend this year’s Tea.

The Red Hat Ladies are big supporters every year and will be at the Tea. Feel free to wear a hat of your own in any color (or no hat at all).
